What to have on hand

  • Both sides of your previous EAD: the card, or Employment Authorization Document.
  • The category and expiration date shown on that card.
  • Your current mailing address, where you reliably receive mail.
  • The notices for the case your renewal is based on: the I-589 for (c)(8) or the I-485 for (c)(9).

This is a starting point for preparing your information, not the complete list of what is filed with USCIS.

What happens inside your case file

Your information is saved to your account with the official label of each field and a history of what you changed. Your documents are kept in private storage that you can access only from your account.

The review checks for empty required fields, dates that don't exist on the calendar, future dates of birth, the format of the A-Number, answers marked “I don't know,” information taken from a document that is still unconfirmed, consistency of the category you declared, and the form edition based on the date and channel you plan to file with.

It does not decide whether you qualify, does not validate every requirement for your category, does not read your documents automatically and does not file anything with USCIS.

What you get

Your official Form I-765, ready to review and sign

You download the official form with your answers already entered in its boxes and the signature fields left blank so you can sign by hand. No one files for you, and nothing certifies that you are ready to file.

As an additional resource in your case file, you can download a supplementary text summary with your information, the checks that ran and what is left to correct or confirm.

The two routes we cover

Each route has its own context and its own sources. They are not interchangeable, and we do not carry requirements over from one to the other.

(c)(8)

Pending asylum application, Form I-589.

(c)(8)

(c)(9)

Pending adjustment of status, Form I-485.

(c)(9)

Scope, limits and how we verify sources

We cover adult renewals in categories (c)(8) and (c)(9). We do not cover first-time applications, replacements or other categories, and that says nothing about your eligibility.

The part and item labels, the 161-widget map and the output were checked against the official PDF of the 08/21/25 edition. Generation covers Parts 1–6, leaves the signatures blank and blocks the download if the result is incomplete or cut off.

What people ask most before opening a case file.

What is the difference between preparing and reviewing?

The free review reads the I-765 you already filled out inside your browser and gives you the findings, coverage and a report; it does not fill out the form. Preparation costs $39, a one-time payment per person and renewal, the same for (c)(8) and (c)(9): guided questions, corrections, saved progress and the completed official I-765 to review and sign. USCIS fees are separate.

What do I receive when I finish?

You receive your official Form I-765 as a PDF, with your answers already entered in its boxes and the signature fields blank so you can sign by hand. It comes with the review of your answers and, if you want it, a supplementary text summary. No one files for you: reviewing it, gathering the evidence, paying the fee and sending it remain up to you.

Which edition of the form should I use?

The official I-765 page, read on September 16, 2026, stated that USCIS accepts the 08/21/25 edition. USCIS does not accept the 09/15/26 edition: its effective date, announced for September 15, 2026, was postponed following the court order of September 14. The date in the footer is not the OMB expiration date.

How far in advance should I renew?

USCIS states generally that a renewal may be filed up to 180 days before your current work permit expires. This is not a guarantee of approval or a personalized deadline, and it does not create a new wait based on your previous card. Check the current instructions for your category before deciding.
